Unit 11. Development of personal fitness
Designing and implementing a personal fitness training programme can be an exciting and rewarding process. A successful training programme must consider lots of factors to ensure that the design meets the sports performer's needs and goals, including lifestyle and physical activity history. The training programme should incorperate training methods that will capture the imagination of the performer. This will help them to maintain a positive interest and give them the commitment and self-motivation needed to complete the programme.
In this unit you will liase with a sports coach, instructor or other appropriate adviser to plan, design and agree a six-week personal fitness training programme. You will cover the principles of training and programming and apply these to the design of a personal fitness training programme, with support from a coach. You will implement the programme for a period of six weeks, maintaining a training diary which documents evidence of participation. It will be important to be able to recognise factors which might prevent you from completing your training programme, since early preventative action can be taken to help overcome these factors and re-focus on your training goals. On completion of the programme you will undertake a review to determine its success in relation to your personal training methods and goals.
